MUSICAL THEATER CLASS
Mondays: Ages 8-12 (4:00-6:00) FEB 2nd - APRIL 13th
Wednesdays: Ages 13-18 (4:00 – 6:00) FEB 4th - APRIL 15th
This exciting ten-week series gives students a full backstage-to-spotlight introduction to musical theater! From auditions and acting to dance, stage makeup, costuming, and tech crew, students explore every part of the theatrical experience through hands-on learning. No prior experience required, just a willingness to learn, grow, and shine. By the end of the course, students will feel confident, prepared, and fluent in the language of the theater both onstage and behind the scenes. Every two weeks, students dive into a new core element of the theatrical experience, allowing them not only to learn the fundamentals but to immediately put them into practice.
Weeks 1–2:
Theater Foundations & Auditions Students begin by learning essential theater terminology, stage directions, and the many components that bring a musical to life. We then tackle one of the most intimidating parts of theater, the audition process. Students learn how auditions work, what directors are looking for, and how to confidently navigate callbacks.
Weeks 3–4:
Acting & Character Development Students develop acting skills by learning how to flesh out a character, make strong acting choices, embody a role, and effectively communicate story and emotion to an audience. Emphasis is placed on authenticity, intention, and connection.
Weeks 5–6:
Movement & Choreography It’s time to move! These weeks focus on choreography and dance technique, with no prior dance experience required. Students learn how to pick up choreography quickly, improve coordination, and make dance auditions work in their favor, no matter their skill level.
Weeks 7–8:
The Look — Makeup, Costumes & Hair Students explore the visual side of theater by learning how to apply their own stage makeup, including special effects such as aging, wounds, fantasy looks, and more. We also cover costuming basics and hair styling, helping students understand how appearance supports character and storytelling.
Weeks 9–10:
Behind the Scenes — Tech & Crew The final weeks take students backstage to learn about the technical side of theater. Students are introduced to stage management, scene changes, and the essential role of the tech crew. They’ll discover how shows transition seamlessly, even in total darkness, and why collaboration behind the scenes is just as vital as what happens on stage.
By the end of this ten-week course, students will feel confident, prepared, and empowered as performers and collaborators. They’ll understand the full scope of musical theater and be able to speak the language of the theatrical world they’ve become a part of, both onstage and off.
