Characters:
Orpheus – Male – Tenor with strong falsetto– D3-C5 - Any ethnicity - A romantic poet and musician working on a masterpiece to bring back spring.
Eurydice – Female - Mezzo-Soprano/Alto, F#3-D5 - Any ethnicity - Eurydice is a practical girl who lives a hard life and knows how to survive.
Hades- Male - Bass F2-C #4 - Any ethnicity - The King of the Underworld. The husband of Persephone. Rich and powerful.
Persephone – Female - Mezzo-Soprano/Alto, F3-C5 - Any ethnicity - The goddess of seasons and the wife of Hades.
Hermes - Any gender - Tenor/Baritone, C3-B4 - Any ethnicity; Charismatic guide and storyteller, a mentor to Orpheus. Messenger of the Gods and the play's narrator.
Fates (3) – Female - Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano, Alto, E3-D5 (Fate 1 up to Eb5) - Any ethnicity - The Fates sing in the back of everyone's minds -The ability to play one of the following instruments is a plus: violin, accordion, and tambourine.
Workers - Any gender - SATB - Any ethnicity - Spirits of labor and community, a physical choral presence. The citizens and workers of Hadestown.
Expectations:
Due to the tight cohesiveness of this show and the smaller cast size, all cast members are expected to prioritize rehearsals. Additional conflicts after casting will NOT be accepted. Continued absences and excuses will result in dismissal.
